Brief personality:
Ayato is arrogant and brash, acting harsh towards his sister and prone to use harsh language. He can usually be seen with a scowl or a menacing smirk, known to kick people over the simplest mistake. He is a firm believer in the notion that ‘the weak perish and the strong survive,’ which was triggered by the death of his mother and father. Ayato cares deeply for Touka subconsciously, and he took her alias, “Rabbit” so that the CCG would hunt him instead of Touka. Ayato also seems to have a soft spot for rabbits. After three years, he became far less ill-tempered, obnoxious, and arrogant, and even developed a rational, approachable way of speaking. Ayato also grew on having a sense of concern as well as the instinct to protect his subordinates. However, he still retained a few of his old traits, such as relentlessly slaughtering Ghoul Investigators and engaging in violent brawls.
He is very distrustful, especially of humans, and feels the need to protect those he cares about and take on all his troubles himself. Ayato portrays himself to be is the total opposite of what is in his heart, only really seeking to ensure the safety of his sibling afterall.
Brief physical description:
Ayato is a lean young man, with blue eyes and long, blue messy hair which sweeps down in front of his eyes. He wears a hooded, long-sleeved black leather jacket, and black pants, along with knee-high black boots. Ayato also has a piercing on his left ear, and usually wears a ring on the pinkie finger of his right hand. In Root A, Ayato is mostly seen wearing a black mask with spires, as well as a black overcoat with a white fur collar. He can be seen wearing shin-high black boots and a long, black coat jacket over his clothes. Ayato possesses multiple black masks. The first one has red eyes and a sharp-toothed grin, which he used during the Aogiri Arc. His current and most frequently-seen mask bears a rabbit design, earning him the moniker of “Black Rabbit.” During the Clowns’ auction, he was seen wearing a very basic, vaguely conical mask which covered only the lower half of his face.

Brief history:
Aogiri Tree (アオギリの樹, Aogiri no Ki, lit. Chinese Parasol Tree) is a terrorist organisation of ghouls that has usurped the power in the 11th Ward and has been actively combating the CCG, inflicting heavy losses on them. In recent years, Aogiri has grown in power, becoming a large threat to the CCG and developing a notorious reputation among ghouls. Combating this growing strength and influence of the organisation has become one of the CCG’s most pressing priorities.
The organisation has its roots in the 24th Ward and was founded by Eto after she and her small band of ghouls were defeated by CCG 13 years ago. Because of that, Aogiri has some structural similarities with the first organisation as stated by several CCG investigators. Aogiri is stated to be commanded by the mysterious One-Eyed King, a figure surrounded by rumour and unseen by all but its direct subordinates. Many believe that the One-Eyed Owl is the King, but Eto herself has stated that is not the case. Despite being the organisation’s founder, Eto often acts behind the scenes and is shrouded in mystery to most, even amongst some of her own members. Tatara, a direct subordinate of the King, serves as the operational leader of the organisation, meeting with members and giving out orders to subordinates. Noro was another direct subordinate of the King, but was usually only deployed on battle situations where he can quickly take out multiple enemies.
Beneath Tatara are several Executives, powerful ghouls that serve as Captains for the organisation and lead their own forces. They are responsible for much of the daily managing of the organisation, such as gathering food and overseeing missions. Each Executive has their own direct subordinates, some of which form into distinct gangs of their own such as the White Suits. Lower ranked members dress in matching robes and masks, and carry out minor tasks such as information gathering, scout and guard duty, or even kitchen duty.
Aogiri actively seeks out new members with each territory they control. During the occupation of the 11th Ward, numerous weak ghouls were conscripted into the organisation and used for menial slave labour, and in the break-in at Cochlea, Aogiri recruited several A- to SS-rated ghouls, notable among them Shachi. Since the fall of Anteiku, Aogiri has expanded its influence and forced ghouls living within human society to work for them. These ghouls are responsible for gathering information, or carrying out other minor tasks that their human identities make them uniquely suited towards. Should these ghouls be discovered, Aogiri may recruit them fully into their ranks as new soldiers.

He’s very good with close combat due to a lifetime of fighting against the CCG. That with his long range attacks make him a tough opponent. Like his sister, Ayato’s kagune are vermilion in color. He is able to form a single wing on both of his shoulders. Like many Ukaku ghouls, he is agile and able to shoot bullets from both wings when in the crystallized mode. However he also suffers from a low RC supply and therefore tires if a battle is dragged out for too long. He is able to hide within his kagune mid-air, with the two wings revolving around him to shield him from projectiles such as bullets.
Nowadays, Ayato seems to have taken on a much more developed physique when in battle due to an elevation in power. His Kagune appears to be much larger, and produces stronger bullets with higher penetration capacity. In order to pose more accordingly with his sister’s alias, Ayato additionally possesses the ability to generate one wing of his Kagune. After the time skip Ayato’s stamina has increased tremendously and he is therefore able to fight for long periods of time without fatigue. His control over his Kagune has also improved; his crystallised kagune wings can transform into sharp blades sprouting from his shoulders, in a similar fashion to Yoshimura and Eto’s Kagune. He can use these blades to fight opponents up close, and this along with the capability to fight without fatigue, shows that he has overcome the two main weaknesses of an Ukaku ghoul.
