| Name: Arthur William Kirkland.
Representative of: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Gender: Male.
Age: Human Age: 23 Country Age: 1089
Brief personality: Arthur is over-imaginative, blunt, and quite stubborn. Although he is a former pirate, nowadays, he claims to be a gentleman, even though he is cynical, sharp-tongued, and prone rough speech. Even so, he is sharp-witted and surprisingly creative. He is startlingly mature and responsible when he needs to be, and he often scolds others when they aren’t so. Arthur loves to be organised, but can never do so since he is quite messy and often loses things. He is spacey and prone to daydream, and he especially is known to talk to fantastical creatures. He also is said to be rarely afraid of anything, and he greatly enjoys ghost stories. He is very strong-willed, and does not easily succumb to stress or pressure. He is quite distant and prefers to work alone, and because of this, he often does not know how to express himself, leading to others misunderstanding him. He is quite prideful of his nation, and sometimes comes over as arrogant. He can be described as self-deprecating, or tsundere, as one may call it. Despite his generally harsh behaviour, he is definitely stated to have a softer side, and seems to genuinely care for other nations. The fact that he likes giving other nations advice, yet specifically mentions that he “does not do it because he's worried about them” illustrates this. Despite his cynical, realistic view on the world, he is said to be a “quite a romanticist before he goes to sleep.” When drunk, he suddenly becomes very nostalgic, and the next morning, he'll pretend that nothing has happened. He is noted to have a rich personality, and Himaruya stated that he cannot decide whether Arthur is a serious person or not.
Arthur’s food is described as “horrible,” even though he enjoys cooking. He enjoys embroidery, craftsmanship, literature, rock music, and criticising American movies. He is generally kinder to young or cute people, and he is known to have terrible luck. To finish it off, Arthur can’t swim.
Brief physical description: England has messy, short, golden blonde hair and emerald green eyes. He is quite slender, and although he is not that muscular, he does have a toned chest. His eyebrows are very prominent and bushy, despite the fact that he regularly trims them. He typically dressed smart casual, but when he’s out to have fun, he dresses like a punk. He has a canon height, where he is a pathetic height of 5’9”.

- Background Info:
At the very beginning of the 5th century, Alvara (the representation of Prehistory-Britain, Roman Britain, and Sub-Roman Britain) fell in love with a pirate named William. They fell in love so deeply that Alvara turned William into an immortal using a potion, already knowing that she wanted to be with him forever. Because of Alvara, William was able to recover from being an alcoholic. They sailed the seven seas together for a decade. At around 410, they had a child and named him Alisstor. Alisstor was raised on a pirate ship until Alvara gave birth to Osian in 784. After Osian was born, Alvara and William decided that it’d be best to raise the family at home. William sold his prized ship in order to pay for a house. On April 23, 927, Alvara gave birth to twins— Arthur and Rose. The two of them were always close from the beginning. They grew up in a small household in Scotland with two older brothers. The eldest was named Alisstor and the younger was Osian, ages 14 and 10 when Arthur and Rose were born. Their father, William, got a job as a butcher to make money for the family to live off of. Around 980, Arthur was about the age 5. Angerbodu, who represented Vikings, stormed the Kirkland household, robbing them of money and valuables. He had previously known Alvara since they used to trade, but that ended so Angerbodu took action. After that, he often gave Alvara a hard time, forcing money out of her. If any of the Kirklands tried to defend themselves, they would get beaten up. This caused the family to rack up more debt, making it harder for William to support the family as a butcher. He offered to be a pirate again in order to make money, but Alvara firmly denied him that. Angerbodu continued to pressure the Kirklands from money up until about 1085, but he still would occasionally rob them until he stopped entirely at around 1300.In 1066, William the Conqueror, aka Guillaume, had a claim to the English throne and ordered Suzanne, Normandy, to fight and capture Arthur. Since he was only 7 at the time, Suzanne was able to capture him and imprison him. It also didn’t help that Arthur was used to fighting with Angerbodu, so when Suzanne introduced a fighting style that was the complete opposite of that, he was thrown off. Whilst he was prisoner, he was only allowed to see his family on weekends, making it very hard to cope, yet bearable. Guillaume hired Suzanne as Arthur’s private tutor, teaching him Norman ways. He began to accept the new culture, but that didn’t stop him from revolting and trying to break free. There were times when he’d act out in violence to try to get away, but he’d always fail and end up punished severely. The last time he tried to revolt was in 1075, when Guillaume was away. He tried to break free, but it proved unsuccessful. He eventually learned to embrace Norman and French culture, and actually started applying it to himself. He enjoyed the rule because Suzanne would fend off Angerbodu’s attacks sometimes and just convince leave Arthur alone. This furthered the bond between the two, making him want to respect her culture more. Arthur tried to style his hair like France’s, but it proved to be a failure since he didn’t know what he was doing. That being said, he started to consider Suzanne as more of a friend, and he adopted many traditions and based a lot of his language off of her own. As time went on, he gained more and more freedom, going back to live in his own house. Suzanne would still visit him from time to time, but eventually Guillaume’s predecessors stopped fiddling with the throne and Suzanne stopped visiting him, leaving him lonely. Other French came in to inherit the throne, but Arthur didn’t care all too much about the French rule at that point. He continued to embrace their culture, though Alvara greatly resisted that. She didn’t like him following Norman customs, and often told him off for it. He eventually stopped mentioning Suzanne around the household, and she seemed to be forgotten entirely, but her legacy in England remained. 1348 – Black Death (wip)
1356-1453 – Hundred Year’s War (wip)After the War of Roses (1455-1487), King Henry VII taxed the hell out of English citizens. This meant that William’s job was no longer sufficient enough to bring home enough money to support the family and to pay off debt that was still racked up from Angerbodu. At first, Alvara tried to make money by sewing and selling clothing, but it didn’t help much. Eventually, William decided he had to take up his job as a pirate again. The family moved to a port city in England in order to make it easy on William. Arthur, about age 16 at the time, wanted William to take him along, but William refused. William sailed away for the first time in centuries at around 1491. He would visit home at least once a month, refusing to sail too far away from the port. At first, William was able to provide enough money for about a decade, but it eventually ended up not working as taxes worsened. Alvara and William tried to find a way to make more money. They decided that William would have to be a full-time pirate. During this time, William came home no more than 4 times a year (Christmas always being one of them). After 8 years of this passed, King Henry VIII came to power in 1509. This was a great relief to the family because Henry VIII didn’t tax nearly as much. It was too late, though. Because William was gone so often, he started drinking again, becoming an alcoholic like he was before he met Alvara. Even though the taxing was over, William still didn’t come home often anymore, and when he did come home, he was always drunk. He visited home less and less as years passed, eventually to where he sometimes didn’t visit for a year. Arthur started to resent William for this because it broke Alvara’s heart. Since William neglected the family, Alvara ended up having to sew until her hands bled in order to make money to support the family. To make matters more stressful, Osian decided he didn’t want to run his own affairs anymore and just gave up his rule and hand it over to Arthur. So thus the Laws in Wales Acts 1535 and 1542 happened, where the English Law was applied to all of Wales. This added pressure to Arthur, and though he embraced the power, he also had to do all of Osian’s work, too. He did a lot of the work around the house, making him dislike William further for not coming home or even helping him with the affairs. To be honest, part of Arthur did even want William to come back, but low and behold, he did. One day, during the 1540s, William returned home after not visiting for three years. During dinner that night, Arthur and William got into a heated argument that resulted in physical fighting. Arthur told him that he needed to be home more often because he was “abandoning the family.” William’s response was always, “Then find a way to fix it yourself!” After the fight, William left the house for more than 30 years. This left Arthur resenting him and left Alvara mourning. Since sewing everyday didn’t make enough money for food, medical care, shelter, and taxes, the whole family had to work. Alvara still couldn’t provide enough money for taxes just by sewing, so she had to find ‘extra means’ of getting money. When William came back in 1576 and found out what Alvara had been doing in order to make money, he yelled at her and hit her for the first time. Arthur was the only one there to see it, so he punched the hell out of William. They got in another fist fight, and Arthur eventually got sent to his room. That morning, William apologised for everything at breakfast. He usually leaves before anyone wakes up, so Alvara was surprised that she’d be cooking him a meal. William, regretting hitting Alvara, decided that he would give up piracy in order to be with the family because it was “poisoning him.” At this point, Arthur wanted nothing to do with William. William tried to find a job, but couldn’t, so he resorted back to piracy again. He came home more often, though. He encouraged Arthur to court a rich woman so the family would be rich, but Arthur refused. Every time he came home for the next 7 years, he pestered Arthur to marry. He claimed that Arthur was ‘the perfect’ age. Arthur knew William’s plan; if Arthur were to marry a rich woman, the rich woman’s family would have to pay William a huge sum of money. Arthur would also have to move out of the house, an idea that William fancied because the two would always argue. William came home in 1582 in April, only to find out that Arthur had fallen in love with a peasant girl named Cynthia. William ran Cynthia off when he found off, giving her death threats. This was to get her out of the picture in order to get Arthur to marry a rich girl. William left again and Arthur felt abandoned by Cynthia. In July, when William came home and just before he left, Arthur found out what he did to Cynthia overhearing a conversation he was having with one of his crewmembers. This made Arthur furious. He told Rose about everything and told her he was planning on stealing William’s ship, but never specified his true intent. That Christmas Eve, William came home with lots of money; enough for a few decades. He never told how he got the large sum of money, but he did say that he was retiring for real. Arthur asked to have the ship, but William refused. Arthur decided that night that he was going to do it. He stabbed William in his sleep and ran away with Rose, stealing William’s pirate ship. Rose became the ships doctor, much to the crew’s dismay. Pirates didn’t like having women on board because they were said to be bad luck, but Arthur didn’t care. His first mate was a short, stumpy, and yet muscular man named Louis. Louis was known for calling Arthur “cap” instead of captain. His signature move would be to click his tongue and simultaneously point both of his index fingers at someone. Arthur respected Louis because he was the only one who seemed to make him laugh. Arthur was depressed because he had lost the one he loved, so in attempt to fill the empty void in his heart, he turned to alcohol. This didn’t work very well so he had his crewmembers bring in women for him whenever they pillaged a place. He fucked the women, and when he was bored of them, he just gave them to the crewmembers to do whatever with. 1583 – Island of Newfoundland whose harbour was formally claimed for England. 1588 – English defeat the Spanish Armada. (wip)
1599 – British East India Company. (wip)At around 1641, Arthur pillaged a Spanish town. He captured a woman named Ann and fell deeply in love with her. Because she was smart, Ann knew how to survive on a ship; she pretended to love Arthur back. Arthur got her pregnant and she had a child. The child was never named because, the night that the child was born, Ann threw herself overboard because she couldn’t take it anymore. After that, Arthur fell into depression again and turned to self-harm (Second English Civil War, 1642).Arthur left the infant in the brig, abandoning the poor baby out of resentment. He couldn’t stand to look at the infant’s face because he’d think of Ann. After that, he refused to have sex with anyone and he wouldn’t let members bring women aboard for sex (Interregnum, 1649). He eventually got over it, but he was unstable and he would snap at his crew members (Second Commonwealth: a period of great political instability, 1659).Despite Arthur being instable, that didn’t stop his imperialistic side. He felt that if he had all of this wealth and power, he’d be able to stabilise himself again. His imperialist ambitions were well off as he had colonies in Virginia, Bermudas, Honduras, Antigua, Barbados, Jamaica and Nova Scotia by 1670. He never bothered to visit his colonies often because he was always busy trying to get new ones. The Acts of Union in 1707 occurred because the financial disaster wrought by the Darien scheme was tearing Scotland up. Alasdair sought English assistance, and Arthur and Alasdair unified Scotland and England into Great Britain under the English crown. During that time, Alisstor flew to France and Italy with James Stuart the "Old Pretender" and his two sons, Henry and most of all: Bonnie Prince Charlie. Alisstor would come and go between Scotland and France and Italy, always coming back to Scotland to fight with the rebels, the Jacobites, against the House of Hanovre, and came back definitively when Charlie did. 1775-1783 – American Revolution. - National History:
1169: The first colony. England colonises Ireland. Indeed King Henry 2nd 1154-1189 was asked by an Irish King (they had many at the time) to send an army to Ireland to sort out inter regional royal disputes. The English liked Ireland and stayed until 1922 and are still rulers of the north of Ireland.
Circa 1200: Christian Europe is continuously attacked on its eastern flank by Islamic forces where Jerusalem the spiritual city for both Jews and Christians is under the protection and defended by the Byzantiums. (The name given to the eastern Roman Empire which is still intact). The Byzantiums ask for help from the Pope in Rome and the Crusades commence.
Finally in 1450: Constantinople the spiritual head of the eastern Christian Church falls to the powerful Islamic Ottomans and they block all trade routes to the east for silks, spices and porcelain (china). The Christian Europeans lead by Italians and Portuguese navigators are forced to look for alternative routes to China and the Spice Islands of Indonesia and find the Americas by mistake. Also by sailing round Africa they set up trading posts in India. The English, while not being first, are soon present in both continents. Elizabeth 1st Queen of England establishes England as a fiercely independent quasi Protestant nation and builds up her navy to keep invading, Pope supported, Catholic Armadas at bay. She also encourages English adventurers to sail west and pirate Catholic galleons and set up colonies in North America (but keeping well away from the more powerful Catholic Spanish in Mexico and South America).
Circa 1600-50: Religious and economic turmoil in England. There is a huge incentive for English Protestant Fundamentalists to join Elizabethan adventurers and leave England and settle abroad where they can practice their particular version of Protestantism as they wish. English settlements appear in Boston, Virginia and the Caribbean together with Bombay and Calcutta in India. Poor harvests and a poor economy in England under both James 1st and Charles 1st also encourage an exodus. This was further exacerbated by the “land enclosures” policy in England when tenant farmers were forced off their land to make room for sheep. Wool was England’s top export earner at the time.
1650-1750: the English are almost continuously fighting the French in America and India as well as the high seas for global domination. However at the end of this period the English have built the most powerful navy in the world and has successfully eliminated any French resistance both in India, North America and the Caribbean. How did they do it? With a superior navy, and military and naval commanders plus a superior (Jewish) organised English financial system. The latter was not available to the Catholic French or Spanish because they hated the Jews and eliminated them from their countries.
1760: English armies defeat the French in both America at Quebec in 1759 under General Wolfe and in India at Pondicherry, 1761under Clive. Any pretensions the French have in competing with England on a world stage have been destroyed in a couple of years. (It will be another 50 years before the English destroyed the French European territorial ambitions, 1815) In America after the defeat of the French, the English divide North America into three. The new boarder run from the south up the Mississippi river then forks to make a Y where the Ohio River meets the Mississippi. The land in the north within the Y is ruled from Quebec. On the west side is Spanish territory but the east side is divided into two again, north south by the Appellation mountains. The 13 colonies on the east side and a native Indian reservation on the west. The English speaking relatively well populated 13 colonies are hemmed in and don’t like it and feel let down by their brothers in London.
1776: “English” settlers in North America are now large in number, 10 times larger than the French colony in Quebec Canada, are well educated and object to the new taxes placed on them by the English back home to finance a standing army in America, particularly as they have no representatives in the London Parliament. The American English declare themselves independent and achieve it after a four year battle plus a little help from the French. North America remains split in two but with a new much smaller Canada with its present boundaries which remains part of the British Empire. Many loyalist American English move north into Canada creating the current east west split of French and English speakers.
Circa 1800: The English continue to expand what is already the largest Empire in the world with the help of a navy which knows no boundaries. Indeed the Pacific Ocean is called an English lake. Australia and New Zealand plus lands east of India including Burma and Malay are added to the Empire without opposition. Back at home the French declare war on England but the English show their supremacy in two famous battles; at sea in the famous battle of Trafalgar (off Cadiz in Spain) where the British Navy under Nelson makes a pre-emptive strike to take out the combined fleets of France and Spain as they plan under Napoleon to set sail and invade England; and on land where at Waterloo in Belgium the British under Wellington defeats Napoleon’s land army. From that date, 1815, the French and English have remained at peace but stay culturally very different.
Circa 1850-1900: The English grab the lion’s share of Africa including Nigeria in the west and a huge swathe from Egypt south all the way to the tip of South Africa. The rest of Africa is divided up amongst the other European nations but England has all the best bits by far.
1918: World war two finishes with England on the winning side and the powerful Islamic Ottomans finally on the losing side. The English take all the best bits of the old Ottoman Empire which includes Iraq (and Iran) and Palestine.
1918: The British Empire is now at its largest but England has lost the mantle of the most powerful nation on earth now to be only equal with up and coming nations like USA, Germany and Japan. Worldwide there is an anti-colonial fever and freedom signals are being received by all the European colonial powers.
1922: The first to leave the British Empire is their oldest and perhaps their most troublesome colony Ireland. (The richer and mainly protestant north remains within the Empire)
1939-45: World War Two. It is now clear to all in the British Empire that England is no longer powerful enough to provide protection (defence) over the whole of the huge empire and indeed have lost the title of the most powerful nation on earth to the United States of America and perhaps communist Russia.
1948-2000: The British Empire is finished. Notable early leavers are Palestine/Israel and India both immediately subjecting themselves to horrific internal religious wars. India along with all the major English speaking nations remain in a loose federation bound together by the English Queen and the concept of personal freedom, responsibility and justice plus the very English summer game of cricket. Many of the non-white peopled ex-colonies toy with communism but this does not produce the economic and social benefits originally hoped for. As communism dies, in some places, a developing Islamic fundamentalist movement takes its place particularly in old Ottoman territories. Their message being that the Christian colonialist stifled the economic and cultural development of their once at least equal Islamic states, which provides the excuse for Islamic holy wars (Jihads) against their previous Christian oppressors (or indeed any non-Muslim).
Religious affiliation: He used to be Protestant/Anglican, but in modern days, he is Agnostic.
Any special powers or abilities: Arthur is known to have some of the best magical abilities in the world, and he is second only to his mum, Britannia. His abilities with potions are absolute shit, though.
