| Name: Alejandro Gonzales Gonzales Representative of: Republica de Colombia Gender: Male Age: 21 (human) 480 (historical) Brief personality:A Friendly and fairly warm person, Alejandro is fond of parties (even if he doesn't like the spotlight too much). Due to his long periods of isolation, he can be awkward at times though. He's also not prone to anger, albeit it is said that actually making him angry is not quite a good idea. Alejandro is also quite afraid of returning to his isolation, and also of having any of his regions leave -although that last fear seems pretty far-fetched by now. He's also fairly laid-back and relaxed most of the time. Brief physical description: Standing at around 180cms, Alejandro is considered somewhat tall for the region. He is most used to keep his black hair short and sports no beard. His eyes are large, dark brown and upturned. They sit on a slightly diamond-shaped face with high cheekbones and tanned skin. More often than not he can be found wearing a shirt, jeans, and tennis. Although every now and then you can chance upon him wearing an old military uniform, not too different from a US Army uniform of around 1950. Brief history:- This was getting a bit too long:
Colombia's origin is a bit... mysterious. While some of the Latin Americans are the children of the major native cultures within their territory (As there is no single culture or two cultures that could claim him as their child), Alejandro just showed up on the then newly founded settlement of Santafé at some point in the early 1540s. Quickly sent to live with Spain, he soon came to be known as New Granada, while the various regions of the soon to be Viceroyalty (some of them verifiably the children of the native cultures dominant in each region, some others quite clearly Spain's) also developed. Made into a fully fledged Viceroyalty in 1717, New Granada soon found himself thrust into the various wars in the caribbean, most notably the War of Jenkins' Ear. His presence in Cartagena in the battle that took place in 1741 is still unconfirmed though.
By the time independence rolled around, Santafé, or Bogotá, attempted to impose a model similar to that of the French Republic, while the rest of the regions either went with a Federal Model, went their own way (Cauca) or openly sided with Spain (Pasto especially, who would be renamed Nariño in later years, much to his chagrin) After a brief reconquest by Spain in 1816, Alejandro joined forces with Venezuela, forming a single state (Then called simply, Colombia, but nowadays known as Gran Colombia) However this did not work, as Simón Bolivar began accumulating power on himself, Alejandro found himself somewhat supportive of the attempt on his life in 1828, while Venezuela soon enough left (as did Ecuador). In the following years, he managed to bring his various regions under control (despite the occasional civil wars) going through centralist and federalist phases until the 1890s (On one of such federalist phases, the new government renamed him as Colombia, to much confusion). At that point, the last attempt of some of the regions to assert themselves over the central government was crushed, but the American intervention that saw the final signing of a peace treaty in 1903 also led to Panama leaving.
The first part of the 20th Century was spent in reconstruction, being neutral in the First World War, Colombia would eventually go to war with Perú in 1932. That war was short, and somewhat inconclusive (although he did get to keep Leticia). His participation in the Second World War was limited to patrolling the Caribbean, although he never got to sink a single German submarine. He did however participate actively in the Korean War, with a batallion's worth of troops shipped to Korea and who saw action there. This, however, was overshadowed at home by a period of extreme political violence that only ended with the imposition of a short-lived military dictatorship. The end of said dictatorship however was soon followed by the arrival of various Cuban-backed (or Chinese-Backed in some cases) communist guerrilla forces. And soon enough, drug cartels also began to form. After a particularly dark period in the 1980s and 90s however, the situation began to change. The larger cartels were dismantled by the mid 90s, and the various guerrilla forces were either forced to the negotiating table, or slide into irrelevance.
