Name:
Harmonia Jean Grant
Born under a different name, she changed it upon inheriting her grandfather's role.

Representation:
The study of Medicine

Gender:
Female

Age:
(Human) 20 (the age at which she attained immortality)
(Historical) Medicine has existed since the beginning of civilization, although personally she was born in 1979. Her grandfather represented medicine before her.

Personality:
Most people know Harmonia to be an intelligent, passionate young woman. It can be difficult to keep up with her, given her intellect and brisk, no-nonsense attitude in the workplace and some may get the impression that she is rather condescending (as she is often praised as the century's brightest mind in the field of medicine), but in person she is surprisingly modest and unassuming. A gentle, quiet soul, she prefers to keep a low profile and eschews the spotlight. Her motivations lie mostly in helping other people, not in fame or wealth. Extremely diligent and determined, she isn't one to accept mediocrity and as a result, places very high standards on everyone, especially herself. She takes failure very poorly; it tends to stay with her for a long time, and she is horrible at forgiving herself and letting go of the past. In her youth she was known to be overenthusiastic, curious to the point of being irritating, and a bit of a know-it-all, but age and experience (especially her role in the second wizarding war) has tempered her personality. Despite being a witch herself, she is disdainful of quack medicine, fortune telling, prophecies, and divination, or anything "wish-washy" that has no well-founded proof or explanation.

Despite her compulsion to help others she is hesitant to rely on others herself, insisting on being strong and independent. She often neglects her own needs for others or her work, and tends to bottle up her emotions. Although appearing confident, she frequently faces self-doubt and is her own biggest critic.

Additionally, she has a strong sense of justice and can't stand inequality and prejudice. She is very vocal in her opposition to any kind of unfairness. As she faced many challenges herself when she first started working in her field due to her young age and gender, she insists on signing her name with just her initials, even on business cards. It is so that people will usually assume she is a middle-aged white male, before meeting her.

Backstory:

Appearance:
Harmonia is rather diminutive in build. Although of average height at 5'5, she is rather skinny and small-breasted as she often forgets to feed herself, although it isn't to the extent that she looks unhealthy. Her skin is fair, with a very light smattering of freckles across her cheeks. As a child, her teeth and hair were a source of ridicule from her peers as she had rather prominent front teeth and rather voluminous, bushy hair that was notoriously difficult to manage. However, she had her teeth fixed (after an unfortunate fiasco that left her with no choice) and as she grew older her hair tamed itself into soft curls. She keeps her chestnut-coloured hair just above waist length, usually tied up into a braid or loose bun to keep it out of her way as she works. Even now, however, she is still rather prone to getting a bedhead in the morning. She has delicate features; a small nose, soft pink lips and whiskey-coloured amber eyes. She usually wears casual clothes, along with a lab coat if at work. Although she isn't exactly an outstanding beauty or Next Top Model, she is noted to be rather pretty and charming.

History:
Medicine is the science and practice of establishing the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Medicine encompasses a variety of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness. Contemporary medicine applies biomedical sciences, biomedical research, genetics, and medical technology to diagnose, treat, and prevent injury and disease, typically through pharmaceuticals or surgery, but also through therapies as diverse as psychotherapy, external splints and traction, medical devices, biologics, and ionizing radiation, amongst others.

Medicine has been around for thousands of years, during most of which it was an art (an area of skill and knowledge) frequently having connections to the religious and philosophical beliefs of local culture. For example, a medicine man would apply herbs and say prayers for healing, or an ancient philosopher and physician would apply bloodletting according to the theories of humorism. In recent centuries, since the advent of modern science, most medicine has become a combination of art and science (both basic and applied, under the umbrella of medical science). While stitching technique for sutures is an art learned through practice, the knowledge of what happens at the cellular and molecular level in the tissues being stitched arises through science.

Prescientific forms of medicine are now known as traditional medicine and folk medicine, though they do not fall within the modern definition of “medicine” which is based in medical science. Traditional medicine and folk medicine remain commonly used with, or instead of, scientific medicine and are thus called alternative medicine (meaning “[something] other than medicine”, from Latin alter, “other”). For example, evidence on the effectiveness of acupuncture is "variable and inconsistent" for any condition, but is generally safe when done by an appropriately trained practitioner. In contrast, alternative treatments outside the bounds not just of scientific medicine, but also outside the bounds of safety and efficacy are termed quackery.

Highly intelligent, with a photographic memory and incredibly good problem-solving ability. She is also a witch, as much pre-modern medicine was based in superstition and magic.
