Name: Sophia Jones
Representative of: New York City, New York, USA
Gender: Female
Age: 22 in looks but is actually 404 years old.
Brief personality: The first thing you must know about Sophia is she loves her city. She cares for her people immensely and will do anything to keep them happy. She is a joyful girl that loves learning about new cultures, no matter how weird or bizarre. Not particularly amazing at one thing, she pours praise onto those with specific talents, especially musical and artistic talent. She is a physical person, not one to shy away from a hug or suppress reactions. She hates prejudice and cannot function without at least one cup of coffee in the morning. On a deeper note, Sophia holds the firm belief that no one is born evil and that anyone can change, no matter their past. This value was formed from a childhood of loss and survival, making her the strong and resilient woman she is today.
Brief physical description: Sophia is 5'8, with a curvy figure. She has little longer than shoulder-length, wavy, brown hair that she has spent centuries trying to tame...with no such luck. She has long lashes and chocolate brown eyes that glint with mischievousness. Her skin is a deep beige, with a tiny beauty mark above the left side of her lips. She usually wears soft jeans and a large sweatshirt, complete with small hoop earrings and minimal makeup.
Brief history:
The first native New Yorkers were the Lenape, an Algonquin people who hunted, fished and farmed in the area between the Delaware and Hudson rivers. Europeans began to explore the region at the beginning of the 16th century–among the first was Giovanni da Verrazzano, an Italian who sailed up and down the Atlantic coast in search of a route to Asia–but none settled there until 1624. The first inhabitant was Juan Rodriguez of Santo Domingo, who settled there in the winter of 1613-14. In 1624, the Dutch West India Company sent some 30 families to live and work in a tiny settlement on “Nutten Island” (today’s Governors Island) that they called New Amsterdam. In 1626, the settlement’s governor general, Peter Minuit, purchased the much larger Manhattan Island from the natives for 60 guilders in trade goods such as tools, farming equipment, cloth and wampum (shell beads). Fewer than 300 people lived in New Amsterdam when the settlement moved to Manhattan. But it grew quickly, and in 1760 the city (now called New York City; population 18,000) surpassed Boston to become the second-largest city in the American colonies. Fifty years later, with a population 202,589, it became the largest city in the Western hemisphere. Today, more than 8 million people live in the city’s five boroughs.
Religious affiliation: Omnist, but raised Christian
Any special powers or abilities: When she gets really angry, she inherits America's super strength. However, it happens only rarely. Her greatest ability is speaking a ton of languages, representative of the diverse people who live in her city.
