| The world is divided into four nations -- the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation and and the Air Nomads -- each represented by a natural element for which the nation is named. Benders have the ability to control and manipulate the element from their nation. Who will these benders and non-benders alike meet? What will they encounter on their journeys? Where will they travel, across these vast lands? When? How? And Why? Enjoy Roleplaying to your heart's content, in this Avatar: The Last Airbender AU!
Information (Please read before making application!):
Avatar world:
- Water Tribe:
The Water Tribe is a collective term for the nation of people who practice the art of waterbending. It is one of the original four nations and its citizens primarily inhabit the northern and southernmost regions of the globe, near both poles. Many people of Water Tribe ethnicity also live in the United Republic and there is a small community of waterbenders that populate the Foggy Swamp in the Earth Kingdom, although they were isolated from their sister tribes for generations and others were largely unaware of their existence until they were stumbled upon by Avatar Aang, Katara, and Sokka. The people of the Water Tribe are generally peaceful, and strive to live in harmony with nature and the other nations of the world. There are two primary divisions of the Water Tribe, the Northern Tribe and the Southern Tribe, though both were at least de jure governed by the Northern chief until 171 AG.- Northern Water Tribe.:
The North Pole is the northernmost point on Earth and a site of great spiritual importance in the Northern Water Tribe. Located at the center of the pole is an ancient forest containing a portal to the Spirit World, which was reopened by Avatar Korra in 171 AG. The Northern Water Tribe is an independent state located within the realms of the North Pole, ruled by a hereditary monarchic chiefdom. As the oldest division of the three Water Tribes, the Northern Water Tribe dominated both the North Pole as well as the South Pole for centuries. Its capital city, notable for being made almost entirely out of ice, is referred to by the same name. Even though much of its territory encompasses largely inhospitable tundra terrain, the Northern Water Tribe always thrived in its isolation, and grew into a major political and economical power after the Hundred Year War. Unlike its counterpart, the Southern Water Tribe, the North never succumbed to foreign invasions like the massive Siege of the North by the Fire Nation. The people of the Northern Water Tribe are traditionally conservative and very spiritual, but still open to change and reform. The Northern waterbending style is the most widespread form, practiced by waterbenders at both poles and in the United Republic of Nations, as raids on the Southern Water Tribe led to the southern style becoming nearly extinct during the Hundred Year War.
- Southern Water Tribe:
The Southern Water Tribe is an independent state at the South Pole and the southern division of the Water Tribes. A federation of several smaller tribes, the South is ruled by a Council of Elders, who also elect the tribe's chief. The Southern Water Tribe achieved its independence only after the Water Tribe Civil War in 171 AG; before, the tribe had been an autonomous tribal confederation under the Northern Water Tribe's jurisdiction. The South is a major economical power, with its people mostly living in its coastal capital and several villages nearby. The people of the Southern Water Tribe are modern, progressive, and focused on commerce and trade, but lack in spirituality.
- Earth Kingdom:
The Earth Kingdom is one of the world's four nations. Spanning an entire continent as well as several subsidiary islands, it is the largest and most populated sovereignty in the world and encompasses much of the eastern hemisphere. The kingdom is ruled by a monarchy which operates under the rule of a king or queen. The last earth monarch was the 54th Earth King, Wu, of the Hou-Ting Dynasty, who desired to abdicate the throne in 174 AG in favor of splitting the nation into independent states with democratically elected leaders, akin to the situation in the United Republic of Nations. The people of the Earth Kingdom are proud and strong and adhere to a philosophy of peaceful coexistence and cooperation with the other nations of the world. Earthbenders use their abilities for defense and industry and fiercely defended their cities against Fire Nation attacks during the Hundred Year War. It also has a large economy based on agriculture and limited industry, though it is not as economically powerful as the Fire Nation, which benefits from advanced technology. The Earth Kingdom is characterized by significant ethnic and cultural diversity, a consequence of the country's vast territorial expanse. As a result, it suffers from high levels of local autonomy and ethnic conflict, both of which began accelerating as the central government grew weak. Despite this division, the people's recognition of the Earth Kingdom as a single political entity is largely strengthened through the communal belief in a shared history and identity.
- Fire Nation:
The Fire Nation is one of the world's four nations and five sovereign states. It is an absolute monarchy led by the Fire Lord and home to most firebenders. Geographically, the nation is located along the planet's equator in the western hemisphere and is composed of several islands. Its capital is simply known as the Fire Nation Capital. The Fire Nation is the second-largest nation in terms of area, following the Earth Kingdom, while its economy is the most powerful in the world; its strong industrial sector and extensive technological developments not only enabled the Fire Nation to create an extremely powerful military, but also initiated the worldwide modernization and globalization. Before the foundation of the United Republic and the following global technological revolution, it was also the strongest and most advanced country in the world.
- Air Nomads:
An air temple, or airbender temple, is a large structure that was formerly inhabited by Air Nomads prior to the Air Nomad Genocide, though some also later came to be home to people from other nations. The temples are typically located in isolated and difficult-to-reach environments, such as mountaintops or islands. There are five known temples to date, of which one was completely destroyed in 171 AG.- Temples:
- Southern:
The Southern Air Temple is located in the Patola Mountain Range and was one of two temples that exclusively housed male Air Nomads before the beginning of the Hundred Year War. It was notable for being the home of Avatar Aang. It features an airball arena and an inner sanctuary that houses numerous statues of past Avatars. The temple also contains a statue of Monk Gyatso and was the last known residence of the winged lemur species. It was restored to its former glory by the Air Acolytes after the end of the Hundred Year War.
- Northern:
The Northern Air Temple was located in the mountains along the northern coast of the Earth Kingdom and was one of the two temples that exclusively housed male Air Nomads. Prior to the Air Nomad Genocide, it also served as the location of the bison polo championship. Years after the devastating blow the Fire Nation had dealt to the Air Nomads, the deserted temple was colonized by a group of Earth Kingdom refugees, led by a renowned inventor, after their town was destroyed in a flood. The mechanist modified the temple to make life easier for the new inhabitants. The temple once held statues and paintings; however, these and other parts of the temple were destroyed by the mechanist to make room for his new technology. The temple returned to its more traditional appearance after it was restored by the Air Acolytes after the end of the Hundred Year War, though it was destroyed in 171 AG when Ghazan used his lavabending to melt the foundations.
- Eastern:
The Eastern Air Temple is located in a mountain range in the southeastern Earth Kingdom and was one of the two temples that exclusively housed female Air Nomads. The site includes many statues of Avatar Yangchen. After the Air Nomads were killed, the temple became the home of Guru Pathik, who taught Avatar Aang how to unlock his chakras and gain mastery of the Avatar State. It is notable for being situated on three separate mountains, connected by bridges and was the place where all young airbenders would choose the flying bison that would become their life companions. According to Tenzin, it is the most spiritual of all air temples.
- Western:
The Western Air Temple is located in the mountains north of the Fire Nation and was one of the two temples that exclusively housed female Air Nomads. Like the Eastern Air Temple, it boasts statues of Yangchen. The temple is notable in that, unlike the other three temples, it is situated underneath the edge of a cliff instead of atop a mountain. The spires seem as though they were built upside-down, and because of that, the temple is hidden from passersby. The site is also decorated with many flying bison paintings that have remained in relatively good condition, unlike those in the Northern Temple. Renowned as the birthplace of past Avatar Yangchen, Avatar Aang and his friends later made it their temporary home in the later stages of the War.
Bending:
- Waterbending:
Waterbending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the hydrokinetic ability to control water in all of its various forms. This type of bending is used by the people of the Water Tribe, who are divided into the Southern, Northern, and lesser known Foggy Swamp tribes, as well as those of the United Republic, each with their own unique bending style. Water is the element of change. The moon is the source of power in waterbending, and the original waterbenders learned to bend by observing how the moon pushed and pulled the tides. The Water Tribes are the only people who did not learn bending from an animal, though the Moon and Ocean Spirits took the form of koi fish in the mortal world near the beginning of the Avatar World. The fighting style of waterbending is mostly fluid and graceful, acting in concert with the environment. Foggy Swamp style waterbending, however, is more rigid and straight. Waterbenders deal with the flow of energy; they let their defense become their offense, turning their opponents' own forces against them. Even when waterbenders do take an attack stance, their moves always appear to flow from one to the other.
- Earthbending:
Earthbending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the geokinetic ability to manipulate earth and rock in all their various forms, prevalent in the Earth Kingdom and the United Republic. Earth is the element of substance, while the people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse, strong, and enduring.[1] Following the lion turtles' decision to relinquish their role as protectors of mankind, Oma and Shu were the first earthbenders to learn this art from badgermoles. The key to earthbending is utilizing neutral jing, which involves waiting and listening for the right moment to strike and, when that moment comes, acting decisively. In other words, earthbenders generally endure their enemies' attacks until the right opportunity to counterattack reveals itself.
- Firebending:
Firebending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the pyrokinetic ability to control fire. It is unique among the bending arts, as it is the only one in which the performer can spontaneously generate the element. The first human firebenders lived in a city atop a lion turtle during the era of Raava and the art later spread to the Sun Warriors, the Fire Nation, and the United Republic of Nations. The Earth Kingdom also has a small firebending minority. As described by Iroh, fire is the element of power, consisting of overpowering force tempered by the unflinching will to accomplish tasks and desires. However, during the Hundred Year War, a militaristic Fire Nation twisted this into firebending being fueled by rage, hatred, and anger. Firebending draws its power from the sun, and the first human firebenders derived their firebending techniques from the dragons. Firebending is known for its intense and aggressive attacking style and general lack of adequate defensive moves, although firebenders can modify offensive maneuvers to function as a defense, such as creating large walls of fire or shooting down incoming attacks with fire jabs.
- Airbending:
Airbending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the aerokinetic ability to control and manipulate air. The peaceful Air Nomads utilized this type of bending in their everyday lives. Air is the element of freedom. The Air Nomads detached themselves from worldly problems and concerns; finding peace and freedom was the key to solving their difficulties in life. Airbenders continually sought spiritual enlightenment, and, as a result, all children born into the Air Nomads were benders. The first airbenders learned their art from the flying bison. The key to airbending is flexibility and finding and following the path of least resistance. Airbending is notable for being almost purely defensive, as well as the most dynamic of the four bending arts. Airbenders can overwhelm many opponents at once with large and powerful attacks that could prove fatal; however, due to the pacifist nature of the Air Nomads, such attacks are rarely used. Due to their aforementioned spirituality, they often adapt to the situation surrounding them and employ negative jing, preferring evasive maneuvers as opposed to direct confrontation.

| Name: Vanesa Ružena Bianchi Age: 19 Gender: Female Nation: Ethnicity- Water Tribe (Northern) Nationality and Residence- Earth Kingdom Bending Skill(If any): Waterbending Occupation(If any): Healer, herbalist, peasant Personality: Even though Vanesa is usually kind, patient, and soft-spoken, she can be surprisingly short-tempered and easily annoyed or agitated when around people, and can be prone to panicking. Overly finicky people irritate her even though she herself can be a little obsessive-compulsive when it comes to cleaning. She's not aware of this, however. She's also seen to be quite hardworking with a great appreciation for art, music, dance, and architecture. Vanesa also enjoys folk stories and fairy tales both from her own country and others. In her spare time she likes to paint watercolors and play a strategic board game called "Pai-sho" which resembles Chinese Chess in the real world (it's a board game from Avatar: The Last Airbender). Vanesa is a very serious and organized person that likes to plan out and calculate what she will do before she does it. However, if things don't go as planned she can't take pressure very well and can be a little bit of a crybaby, as well as being easily upset or stressed out. She's also seen to be compassionate. She sincerely likes helping people just for the sake of it and has some knowledge in medicine and herbs, which is why she decided to train as a medic and a herbalist. Above all, the most important thing to her is honesty. Appearance: Vanesa has shoulder-length reddish brown hair that is sometimes braided, with dark blue eyes. She is a woman of average build and she's a little short, and is noted to look rather plain and ordinary. Her complexion is relatively pale, with a few freckles sprinkled across her face, mainly the bridge of her nose. Her bangs are usually braided back, or else held with a clip or pin sort of thing. Her family is from the water tribe but they emigrated to the Earth Kingdom. Vanesa tends to dress in simple earth-kingdom style clothing consisting of a plain knee-length gown with a sash around the waist, light colored apron, headscarf, and sandals, in muted, neutral colors such as pale green, grey blue, and light brown.
Name: Rachel Li (Li Kai-Ying) Age: 16 Gender: Female Nation: Fire Nation Bending Skill(If any): Firebending Occupation(If any): Rebellious noblewoman (I would say princess but eh) Personality: Haughty and spoiled, Rachel sometimes tends to treat other people as though they are beneath her. Even though she's intelligent, excellent at firebending, determined, and good a problem solving that does not necessarily make her likable. She's arrogant and very confident in her abilities with a tendency to over-estimate herself and under-estimate others. However, she's very patriotic (but not excessively so) and can be fiercely, stubbornly loyal to those she chooses to pledge her allegiance to. She does have a lot of bottled-up anger and frustration though, having a large family, she's usually forgotten-about. Appearance: A slender girl, at the height of 5'4. Rachel has long, back-length black hair, always kept immaculate and sometimes adorned with a jasmine flower. Her skin is relatively light and stubbornly refuses to tan or take on any color at all. ((Will return to this)) |

| Name: Yukiko Honda (Honda Yukiko.) Age: 22. Gender: Female. Nation: Air nomad, Eastern Temple. Currently residing in the Earth Kingdom. [First time leaving home, woop!] Bending Skill: Airbending. Occupation: Currently works as a waitress at the Jasmine Dragon. Personality: Yukiko is a quiet girl who speaks only if spoken too. Though she may be a woman of little words, her ideas are brilliant and if you choose to speak to her, you will most definitely not regret it. Even though Yukiko may have mastered etiquette, she is quite clumsy and often trips over her own two feet. She shows a lot of respect toward her peers, even her closest friends, but once you know her for a while, she’ll slowly open up to you. She is emotionally strong from the hardships in her past, and she doesn’t like to be taken care of. Being from the Eastern Air temple, she's rather calm and collected. Though she may seem care-less on the outside, she's always very stressed on the inside, unlike other airbenders. Appearance: Yukiko is short and slim, her height being only 5’1. Her long, ebony, black hair is usually put into a stylish loose bun or ponytail, accessorized with a Yamazakura flower. Her skin is quite tan, but not too much, and her eyes are nut-brown, almost black. Like all airbenders, on her arms, legs, back, and coming to her forehead are blue arrows. Though, she wears her bangs long to cover up the arrow on her forehead. Her usual attire consists of a fashionable Earth Kingdom dress in the typical green and yellow of the nation, The main color of the dress is dark green, with light green borders at the side and the shoulders. |
